Educational Halloween Games

Category : Halloween

Educational Halloween Games

There are many different educational Halloween games that can be used to entertain kids and educate kids in the lead up to Halloween. Kids love to have fun at Halloween and they love to play games. But that doesn’t mean that the games are just for fun. There are games that are also educational.

These games are ideal for school and can be used for a Halloween classroom party or can be used prior to Halloween as a treat for a class that has been working well. There are also educational Halloween games that are suitable for a few children to play together at home.
Here are a few that you might like to try at home or at school.

Halloween Hangman

This popular spelling game is ideal as a Halloween game. The traditional hangman diagram can be used and is most appropriate for this time of year. It can be played in the usual way but instead of using any word, a Halloween themed word can be used. You might use the words vampire, witches, potion and haunted.

A slightly different version can also be used. Instead of using just a word that has to be spelled out, try using a whole sentence. Create a spooky, Halloween themed sentence like, ‘As we walked along the deserted road a fog surrounded us and we heard an eerie wailing close behind.’ Draw a dash for every letter of the sentence leaving a space between the words. The game is then played in the same way as the traditional game. You probably won’t get much of the hangman drawn but it is a good educational Halloween game that gets kids using their spelling skills as they try to work out the words in the sentence.

Halloween Riddles

If you are looking for educational Halloween games that will involve some reading or writing, you might like a try Halloween Riddle Match up or a progressive Halloween story.
To play Halloween Riddle Match Up, you will need about eight to twelve Halloween riddles. Write the question for each on a card and the answer for each on a separate card so that there are now two cards for each riddle. It is best to use a slightly different sized card for the answers so that children pick up a riddle card and an answer card each time. This game is played like the game of Concentration. All of the cards are turned face down and the players take turns to pick up two cards and see if they have a complete riddle. They keep the cards if they do or return the cards if they don’t. The person who gets the most riddles is the winner.

Progressive Story

There are a few educational Halloween games that will get kids writing creatively. One of these is the Progressive Story.  A simple way to do this game is to use a notebook. To begin, a story starter is written on the first page of the book. The first sentence might be, ‘On a dark, moonless night three witches gathered around a caldron.’ Each person adds a sentence to the story but the interesting twist is that as they do they are only allowed to read the preceding sentence. This does create a rather disjointed story but it is usually a humorous one that children enjoy reading over and over. They can also illustrate the story after it is completed.

There are many different educational Halloween games that can be used at school or at home. Kids deserve to have fun a Halloween but if you choose the right kind of Halloween games there will also be lots of learning that goes on too!

Halloween Word Games – Educational Halloween Games for School

Halloween Word Games – Educational Halloween Games for School

Halloween word games are a great way to get kids playing with words and learning while they have lots of fun. The games are ideal for school but can also be used at home. There are many traditional word games that can be turned into a Halloween game simply by using Halloween words.

Here are a few games to get you started. If you are stuck for words to use in your Halloween word games you might like to use this list of words to help you – broom, ghost, treat, magic, candy, witch, scary, spooky, mummy, potion, coffin, spider, creepy, scream, monster, cauldron, vampire, costume, pumpkin, haunted, skeleton, Frankenstein, Dracula.

Boo

This Halloween game is actually a version of a spelling bee but it is fast paced and contains an element of chance so even the best speller may be the one that gets out first. The teacher needs a list of Halloween related words for the children to spell. You will probably only need 10 – 1 5 words.

The children stand in a circle. The teacher chooses someone to start and gives the word to be spelled. The first person says the first letter, the person to their left says the next letter and so on until the word is spelled. The next person says ‘Boo’ to indicate that the word is finished and the person after this is out and sits down. If a mistake is made the person also has to sit down. The game continues with the next word. The winner is the last person left standing. This is a game that kids love to play. You’ll find that they will want to play again and again.

Sppoky Word Find

If you are looking for Halloween Word games that don’t require any preparation, this is an ideal one for you. Children are given a word related to Halloween, preferably a long one like Halloween, Frankenstein or Skeleton. They then have to find as many words as they can that have the letters from this word. Each letter from the word can only be used once unless it appears more than one in the original word. From the word Halloween, children could make hall, we, well, wheel etc. Give the children a time limit and see who can come up with the longest list after time is up. This is also a good Halloween party game if you are looking for something to settle down excited children. It is also one the of easiest Halloween word games to prepare.

Word Chain

This game is a similar game to the one above but this time children are given a chain of Halloween words joined end to end. The word chain might have ten different Halloween words joined together. It could look like this – Halloweenbatswitchspookymonstershaunted etc. Children now have to find all of the words that they can in this chain of words. This time the order of the letters can’t be changed and word must exist in the chain already. The Halloween words will be most obvious but there will be other words hidden in the list as well. See who can find the longest list of words in the given time frame. This is one of the Halloween word games that is a great way to occupy kids who finish work early in class.

Halloween Word Search

A word search is a simple word game to create for Halloween. You can draw one up on paper or create one on the computer. Just draw a table and make a list of Halloween words. The words are then written into the table with each letter in a separate square. When all of the words that you want to use have been written in, fill in the blank squares with extra letters. Your Halloween word search is now ready to use.

These Halloween word games are just a few of the many different games that can be used in the classroom or at home. The best part is that these educational Halloween games are just lots of fun, they are actually games where kids can be learning at the same time.

If you are looking for Halloween classroom activities, you have wide choice of games and activities that you can use. You can incorporate Halloween activities into math lessons, writing lessons, art classes and more. In fact you could do nothing but Halloween activities for the month of October and still fill each day with quality educational content.
Halloween classroom activities don’t have to be just a bit of fun. They can be worthwhile activities where the learning continues and best of all the kids are really keen to participate. Look at the different ways that you can incorporate this spooky theme into your program.

Brain Teasers

It is worthwhile adding a few math Halloween activities into your program before Halloween. Halloween brain teasers are always popular with the kids. These can be math brain teasers where the problems are about Halloween characters like witches, ghosts and vampires.
Many regular brain teasers can easily be changed to Halloween brain teasers. Here is one to get you started. Wendy the witch has all of her cats and all of her owls in the house. She has 9 animals in the house and they have 30 legs altogether. How many cats and how many owls does she have?

Writing Activities

Halloween classroom activities can also focus on writing activities. An acrostic poem is a great way to get the creativity flowing. The kids just write the ‘Halloween’ going down the page and then use these letters to start each line of their poem. This is a popular Halloween classroom activity. Other Halloween words can also be used for the poem. Children might like to use Frankenstein, Ghosts, Vampires or Spooky as the word for their poem. They will also enjoy using fancy lettering and decorating their poem when they publish the final copy.
There are other Halloween classroom activities that involve writing also. Children might like to write a Halloween story or write a diary for a Halloween character outlining what the character does for the week of Halloween.

Craft Activities

Halloween crafts are also a great way to extend kids’ creativity. Making decorations, cards and even Halloween board games will get kids expressing themselves creatively. Children might enjoy creating and decorating cutouts of ghosts, witches or bats. Halloween cards and bookmarks can also be decorated to give to friends or family.

A Halloween board game is fun to make and when it is finished it is also fun to play with. You can provide the materials and a few ideas and then let the kids create and design their own project.

Halloween in the classroom doesn’t have to be limited to a fun Halloween party. There are loads of worthwhile activities that the kids can be involved in as Halloween approaches. Kids can enjoy a Halloween week or even a Halloween week. Apart from math and writing and crafts they can also do research about Halloween to discover its origins and meaning.
There is an endless number of Halloween classroom activities that you can bring into your classroom. The best part is that the learning doesn’t have to stop as there are many different activities that are educational too.

Halloween Games and Activities – Give the Kids a Halloween Treat

Halloween games and activities are the perfect way to give kids a treat as Halloween approaches. The closer Halloween gets the more excited the kids get so you will want a few Halloween games and activities up your sleeve to keep them busy and entertained and out of mischief.

There are many different Halloween games and activities that won’t cost a fortune and are easy to organize. The following is a list of my top seven ways to entertain kids at Halloween.

1. Halloween board games are great fun to play but also great fun to make. Why not grab some stock card and some markers and let the kids make their own games?

2. Halloween arts and crafts will bring out the creative side of your little devils. Search online and you’ll find loads of Halloween craft activities. Many Halloween crafts actually create something that can be then be used as a decoration for Halloween. Set the kids to work and they’ll be making bats, spiders, ghosts and wreaths to decorate the house for Halloween. Best of all you’ll save a fortune on your Halloween decorations.

3. Halloween coloring pages are fun for kids to color and also make great decorations. They can be turned into cards or used to wrap small Halloween treats for the kids. Search online and you’ll find coloring sheets that you can print off.

4. Halloween masks are a fun Halloween craft for the kids to make. There are simple masks that can be made from paper plates or you might like to try more complex paper mache ones.

5. Halloween recipes are another way to bring out their creative side. The kids can make gooey, revolting treats using recipes found on the internet. They’ll enjoy making them and they’ll also enjoy eating them up. If they practice with a few different recipes before Halloween, you might even be able to get the kids to do some of your Halloween catering for you!

6. A Halloween scavenger hunt is always popular with the kids. You can either give them a list of things to collect or have a treasure hunt that leads them from place to place looking for clues.

7. Halloween costumes can be expensive but if you get creative they don’t have to be. Let the kids do some research and find what they’d like to be then let them start working on creating their own costumes. They’ll be so proud when they dress up for Halloween because they will have made the costume themselves.

Well these are just a few Halloween games and activities that you might like to try this Halloween. Remember homemade is always the best and Halloween doesn’t have to be expensive. Do a little bit of planning and the kids can enjoy making Halloween games, decorations, costumes, cards and food.

Fun and Creepy Halloween Party Games

Fun and Creepy Halloween Party Games

1. Fun Halloween Party Games for Kids

Fun Halloween Party Games for Kids 1 # Eyeball Relay Race:

The children should be divided into teams. The first child of each team should be given a spoon along with a ping-pong ball painted to look like an eyeball. The eyeball should be carried on the spoon, and they have to carry this to the end of a course and return, and hand the spoon and eyeball over to the next child. This has to be continued until every child in each team has had a turn. The team that is done first wins.

Fun Halloween Party Games for Kids 2 # Ghostly Waiter

The children are divided into teams. The first child of each team is given a paper plate and balloon. The balloon must be balanced on the plate as each child walks as fast as he/she can up and down a set course. The team that finishes first is the winner. Fun

Fun Halloween Party Games for Kids 3 # Guess the Scarecrow’s Nose

A sheet with a scarecrow painted on it will have to be made before the party, keeping in mind the general height of the children participating in the game. Cut out the nose area of the scarecrow. The children should be divided into two teams. One team should be taken out of the room, while the other team stays inside. The adults should hold the sheet up at the doorway. Then each child from the team outside puts her/his nose through the hole in the sheet, while the children inside the room try and guess who the scarecrow’s nose is.

Fun Halloween Party Games for Kids 4 # Halloween Freeze Tag

All the players should be in Halloween costumes. The player who becomes it must chase the others, trying to touch them. Each time he/she touches a player, that player has to freeze up, i.e. stand still, until somebody unfreezes them. In order to unfreeze a frozen player, somebody must come up close to the frozen player and guess out aloud what the costume he or she has on. If they don’t get the guess right in three tries, they must go away and try unfreezing somebody else. The player who is it can freeze the player trying to unfreeze somebody.

2. Fun Halloween Party Games for Teens

Most teens are at a stage in their lives when they feel silly playing what they consider kiddies’ games. All they want is some music, good food, and a place to hang out and do their teen thing. And most dislike parental or adult supervision. However, there are a few challenging games that should get even the most jaded teen asking for more. It’s a good idea to simply suggest the ideas, and leave it to the teens to manage the Halloween party games themselves. As for the supervision, looking in discreetly once in a while, just to keep a check on things, is more than enough.

Fun Halloween Party Games for Teens 1 # Marshmallow Race

The party-goers have to (one at a time) loop the open end of the panty hose over their heads and under their noses and pull forward. The aim is to get the marshmallow in their mouths. They can’t use their hands. The teen that does this the fastest, wins. Have many panty hose ready to go, because the knee high might break or snap during the course of this Halloween game for teens.

Fun Halloween Party Games for Teens 2 # Dancing Competition

Most teens will find this really fun. There can be various wacky categories, such as ballroom, tango, break dance, and so on. Perhaps they can pair up with each other according to the costume they are wearing. The more bizarre the pairing the better. A popular vote or a panel can decide on the winners. Prizes like CDs or gift vouchers can be given to the winners.

Fun Halloween Party Games for Teens 3 # Halloween Haunted House

This is a hit with practically every age group. Begin making the haunted house before the Halloween party day. One of the best places of setting up a haunted house is in the basement. Black garbage bags can be used to make the rooms and walls of the haunt. Be creative! The older siblings of the teens along with their friends can be invited over to run the haunt. Have appropriately scary music.

… View other ideas for Teens: Teenager Funny and Creepy Halloween Party Games

3. Adult Halloween Party Games

Most adults find the child in themselves every year when Halloween turns up. They get into the spirit of the haunting season with as much gusto as kids. Here are a few fun games that most adults will enjoy.

Adult Halloween Party Games 1 # Halloween Trivia Adults will test their knowledge of horror movies, Halloween traditions, Halloween candy, Halloween history, and any other Halloween related trivia you can think of. Assign each question a point value and provide guests with bells or other noise makers to ring in with if they think they have the answer. The adult with the most points wins a prize.

Adult Halloween Party Games 2 # Halloween Still Scene The objective in this game is to use props like scary mannequins, fake blood, swords, knives, old clothes, costumes and so on to create a scary scene. The props can be bought from a thrift store. The legs, arms and head of the mannequins can be pulled off. This game can be played in the backyard where a box of the props can be placed. The guests must be divided into teams. And each team must use the props to create the scariest scene possible within a certain period of time. Prizes can be given to the scene adjudged the scariest.

Adult Halloween Party Games 3 # Murder Mystery

Murder mystery parties are popular for all occasions, but the emphasis on blood and mayhem makes them a great choice for adult Halloween games. You can create your own mystery or purchase a prepackaged game kit. If the game you buy doesn’t already have a horror theme, add some Halloween flavor by tweaking the details. For instance, change the setting to a haunted house or make the culprit a vampire.

Adult Halloween Party Games 4 # Halloween Killing Instincts

This is a hide and seek game with a difference. The guests have about 3-5 minutes to hide wherever they can. The one chosen as the “murderer” must go to another room while the rest of the players hide and put on a ghoulish Halloween costume. The lights should be turned off and only have a couple of flashlights or so. The “murderer” then hunts out his/her “victims”, and each time a victim is caught/killed, he/she must let out a blood-curdling scream and go to the center of a room, designated as a the cemetery, and lie on the floor. Whoever is left last is declared the winner. This can be great fun especially with scary music on.
